September is traditionally the month when new venues open their doors. The summer rush is over, staff are back and guests are ready for something new. We selected five openings that stand out for their concept, quality or nerve.
Antwerp: wine among the printing presses
In a former print shop on the Eilandje, a young sommelier couple pours only wines from estates they've visited themselves. The list has eighty references, served with small plates of Flemish vegetables.
On Saturdays the queue reaches the pavement.
Utrecht: bread from their own flour
A bakery in Lombok mills its own grain on a stone mill behind the counter. The result is bread with a depth you rarely taste. On Saturdays the queue reaches the pavement.
And also
In Liège an izakaya opened in a former hair salon, in Luxembourg City a vegetarian bistro with just twelve seats, and in Bruges a coffee bar that also repairs bikes. You'll find every address in our guide.
