HorecaBenelux

We keep this simple: horecabenelux.com only stores what it needs to work, and nothing that follows you around the web. Here’s exactly what that is, and how you stay in control.

In short

In plain words
  1. 01We only use what the site needs to work, plus a few handy extras that stay in your browser.
  2. 02No analytics, no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no social media plugins.
  3. 03Maps from OpenStreetMap only load once you allow them or click “Show map”.
  4. 04You can change your choice at any time on this page. We remember it for 12 months.
  5. 05Clearing your browser data removes everything we stored, including your cart and saved ads.

This summary helps you find your way; the full text below is what counts.

§ 01

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. When you open a page again, your browser sends them back, so the site can remember something, such as your language or the fact that you’re logged in.

localStorage and sessionStorage are similar storage spaces built into your browser. The difference is that they stay on your device and aren’t sent to the server with every request. Whatever is in localStorage stays until it’s deleted. sessionStorage is emptied as soon as you close the tab.

The European ePrivacy rules, overseen in Belgium by the Data Protection Authority (GBA/APD), apply to all three in the same way. So this policy covers all three, and when we say “cookies” below, we mean all of them.

§ 02

What we use, in short

We keep it to the minimum. Everything we store ourselves is first-party: it comes from horecabenelux.com, stays in your browser and is only used to make this site work for you. We don’t use it to build a profile of you, and we don’t share it with anyone.

  • Strictly necessary: your language, your cookie choice, your webshop cart and, once you log in, your login and the business you are working on in your account; in HB Dine (ordering at the table), also your table session, your language at the table, the dishes you picked but did not send yet and the team’s paired device. The site can’t work properly without these, so the law doesn’t require your consent for them.
  • Functional: the ads you save on the Marketplace, a note that you’ve already seen the opening animation during this visit, and whether the HB Dine screens of the team and the owner play sounds. These stay in your browser, aren’t sent to us and only serve something you use or see yourself, so they don’t need your consent either.
  • External media: maps from OpenStreetMap. These only load after you allow them.

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no social media plugins. We don’t follow you around other websites.

“HttpOnly” and “Secure” mean that scripts on the page can’t read these cookies, and that they’re only sent over an encrypted connection.

§ 04

Maps and other external content

On business, event, partner and Marketplace pages, we can show a map from OpenStreetMap. The map is loaded directly from the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF). This means your browser sends your IP address to the OSMF, which may also set technical cookies of its own. The OSMF is based in the United Kingdom, for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision.

That’s why maps are off by default. Instead of the map, you’ll see a “Show map” button. Click it and the map loads. You can also allow maps everywhere in the cookie banner or in the panel below. Until you do, no data goes to OpenStreetMap.

What the OSMF does with that data is explained in its privacy policy.

The social media icons and share buttons on our site are ordinary links: they load nothing from those networks in the background. Only when you click one do you go to that network, whose own privacy and cookie policy then applies.

§ 05

Your choices

Strictly necessary storage is always on, because the site can’t work without it. For external content such as maps, you decide. Withdrawing your consent is just as easy as giving it, and takes effect straight away.

  • Strictly necessaryAlways on

Language choice, cart, your cookie choice and (once you log in) your session. The site doesn’t work without them.

  • External media

OpenStreetMap maps on business, event, partner and marketplace pages.

  • StatisticsNot in use

We don’t measure visitor behaviour. Should that ever change, we’ll ask you first.

  • MarketingNot in use

No advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, no profiling.

We store your choice in your browser (hb-consent) for 12 months. After that, we ask again. You can change it here at any time, as often as you like.

§ 06

Deleting or blocking in your browser

You can also delete or block cookies and other site data yourself in your browser settings. Here’s how in the most common browsers:

Good to know: clearing the site data for horecabenelux.com also empties your webshop cart and removes your saved ads. We’ll also ask for your cookie choice again.

If you block all cookies, some parts of the site won’t work properly. For example, we won’t be able to remember your language or keep you logged in.

§ 07

Changes

If we change what we store, we’ll update this policy, along with the version and date at the top of this page.

Should we ever want to use analytics or marketing cookies, we’ll ask for your consent first and add them to the overview above beforehand. Nothing of that kind is placed until you say yes.
